Chicago Heights, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Workers put the finishing touches on the recently christened Dave Mattio Field at Marian Catholic. The school’s football field now bears the name of the school’s longest-serving football coach.
Mattio, who continues to serve as the school’s Athletic Director, has been at Marian Catholic 42 years, 37 of which he served as head football coach.
Jerry Verde, a 1995 graduate of Marian Catholic, was named to succeed Dave Mattio as the school’s 7th football coach. The 1995 Marian alum also led the Spartans to the IHSA Class 4A state title as a linebacker in 1993 (a 13-6 victory over Geneseo Darnall).
