Fund Raising events planned for this weekend

Chicago Heights , IL–(ENEWSPF)– The 2010 Rose Parade bound Marian Catholic Marching Band will host fun- and fund-raising events on the Marian Catholic campus this Friday, August 28th and Saturday, August 29th.

Rick Jackson, President-elect of the 2010 Tournament of Roses Parade will present Marian Director of Bands Greg Bimm with an official Rose Parade Flag during halftime of the Marian vs. HF Varsity Football game Friday night.

“It is a thrill for the band students, band parents and the entire Marian Catholic community for Rick Jackson to visit our campus,” said Bimm, now in his 33rd year at Marian. “The band members have been working very hard over the summer to prepare for the Rose Parade and our other competitions coming up this fall. This will be the first opportunity for the public to participate in supporting the band’s trip to Pasadena.”

Marian Catholic is the only Illinois high school band marching in the parade on New Year’s Day.

Farmers Insurance, a long time sponsor of the Tournament of Roses Parade, will offer tethered rides in the Farmers Insurance hot air balloon, ‘ExtraordinAir’ Friday from 5-7:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to noon, west of the Marian football stadium. The cost for a tethered ride is $10 per person. A $5 raffle to win a “free flight” one-hour balloon ride is available with the drawing at noon Saturday. Farmers Insurance will also present a check to the Marching Spartans during halftime of the Varsity football game to help offset travel expenses.

From 10:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, children’s games and face painting sponsored by Marian band students will take place on the football field. Youngsters can meet band members, try out various instruments, and even learn to march like the Spartans.

In the event of inclement weather, balloon rides will be cancelled and the proceeds from ticket sales will become a 50/50 raffle. The children’s games will be rescheduled to October 11th during the band’s annual Oktoberfest craft fair.
