Marian Catholic Speech Team Places Second at Consecutive Tournaments



MCHS falls just short at Santaburg Oaklaus & Tree event

Chicago Heights, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Marian Catholic High School’s Speech Team took second place, with a total score of 385 points, second to Shepard High School at the Santaburg Oaklaus Tournament on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Oak Lawn. The Spartans also took home a second place finish the weekend of December 6th, with a total score of 410 points, just getting edged out by Richards High School at the Thornridge Speech Invitational. Marian advanced an amazing 22 contestants to the finals.

“I’m really proud of the way the kids competed from every aspect of the competition,” said Mark Donaway Marian Catholic Speech Team Head Coach. “We have had a number of repeat champions on an individual level and we are stared to break through with some younger students as well, which says a lot for the program.”

Leading team members included; Elise Pittman ’17, Matteson, first in Original Poetry & Prose and third in Poetry Reading; Kalyn Des Jardins ’15, Chicago Heights, first in Oratorical Declamation and fourth in Dramatic Interpretation; Deangelo Davis ’15, Lynwood, first in Original Comedy at both events; Jocelyn Billheimer ’17, Country Club Hills, first in Special Occasion Speaking and third in Informative Speaking; Brenah Johnson ’17, Matteson, second in Original Oratory and third in Radio Speaking; Emerson Pavur ’15, Monee, fourth in Prose Reading; Marcus Webster ’15, Hazel Crest, forth in Extemporaneous Speaking;

Alex Stechman ’16, Lansing, fifth in Extemporaneous Speaking; Deangelo Davis ’15, Lynwood, and Sylvester Bracey ’16, Homewood, third in Humorous Duet Acting; Emerson Pavur ’15, Monee, and Katie O’Shea ’17, Tinley Park, fourth in Humorous Duet Acting; Summer and Sydney Reyes ’17, Olympia Fields, fourth in Dramatic Duet Acting; Ryan Brown ’18, Steger, and Tommy McDermott ’18, Hammond, fifth in Humorous Duet Acting.
