Marian Catholic, Thornton, H-F Take Top Honors at IHSA Regional Speech Tournament Southland College Prep Charter High School

Marian Catholic High School, Chicago Heights, took top honors at the IHSA Regional Speech Tournament held at Southland College Prep Charter High School February 2. RICHTON PARK, IL.–(ENEWSPF)-February 3, 2013- Marian Catholic High School, Chicago Heights, took top honors when 93 students from eleven southwest suburban high schools competed in the Illinois High School Association’s Regional Individual Speech tournament at Southland College Prep Charter High School, Richton Park, yesterday.

Marian’s team led the tournament with 66 points. Second and third place competitors were Thornton High School, Harvey, with 58 points and Homewood-Flossmoor High School that scored 54 points.

Southland College Prep Charter High School, Richton Park, took fourth place with 49 points and Thornridge High School, Dolton, earned 33 points in overall competition.

Other teams competing in the Regional Speech tournament were: Crete High School, Monee; Thornton Fractional South, Lansing; Bremen High School, Midlothian; Rich East High School, Park Forest; Thornwood High School, South Holland; and Tinley Park High School.

"These students exhibited extraordinary talent and professionalism in what was truly a day-long competition for excellence waged on our stage and in our performance spaces,” noted Dr. Blondean Davis, Southland College Prep Charter High School’s CEO whose school hosted the tournament. Cheryl Frazier, Southland’s Director of Forensics and Theatre was tournament manager.

Rick Reinbold, president of Richton Park, praised the students for their “high energy, enthusiasm and good sportsmanship exhibited by all the teams at the end of a very long 10-hour competition.”

Marian Catholic also took top Regional honors in the “Performance-in-the-Round” category. Thornwood, Homewood-Flossmoor, Southland College Prep and Thornridge earned Sectional births in the same category.
