New Art Exhibitions coming to South Suburban College’s Thiel and Dulgar Galleries

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL–(ENEWSPF)–September 12, 2013.  The Art & Design Department of South Suburban College (SSC) is pleased to present two exhibitions in galleries on the college’s Main Campus in South Holland.

First, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, an exhibition of Saul Aguirre’s art works entitled Discusiones de Niños is on display in the Dorothea Thiel Gallery from September 18th through October 17th with an artist reception on September 25th from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.   Discusiones de Niños concentrates on the crucial years of child development in a creative way.  Mr. Aguirre has been able to capture the different types of discussions in a child’s lifestyle and activities.

“Early childhood one of its most brilliant and influential periods of the mind, it is exceptional to understand their mentalities and continue to educate them to have a better society,” says Aguirre.  “The activities of children are embedded in their minds, a learning process that has been changed with the new technology.”

A second exhibition by Joanne Aono entitled 1 & One will be on display in the Lee E. Dulgar Gallery from September 23rd through October 18th with an artist reception on October 2nd at 12:30 p.m.  Ms. Aono studied in the Studios Program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and holds a B.F.A. from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.  Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions around Chicago, where she currently resides.

“Dualities, along with comparisons and contrasts, are underlying themes in my drawings and paintings,” said Aono.  “Through my life as a twin and my bi-cultural experience as a Japanese American, I use visual and conceptual pairings to depict the universal quest to maintain a collective identity while projecting a sense of individuality.”

The public is welcome to visit art exhibitions and receptions at no charge.  The Thiel Gallery is on the fourth floor in the Art & Design hallway and is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  The Dulgar Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  The galleries are closed on weekends and holidays.
