CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–February 12, 2013.  Prairie State College (PSC) recently announced that Assistant Professor Tina Parks met the college’s expectations for tenure, including commitment to student success, collaboration with her peers, and dedication to the college’s mission and core values. The announcement was made at the January Board of Trustees meeting. The tenure is effective August 2013.

Vice President Dr. Adenuga Atewologun, dean of faculty, who recommended Parks for tenure, says Parks was selected from a highly qualified pool of candidates during the hiring process, and was mentored and tested to fitness by the tenure process. Elements of the PSC tenure process include review by a peer committee of tenured faculty, student evaluations, deans’ reviews, and classroom visits. Prior to being awarded tenure, the faculty candidates also prepare an extensive teaching portfolio.

Parks joined the nursing faculty at PSC in 2010. Before coming to teach at PSC, she practiced as an LPN in Columbus, Ohio, providing care to a diverse home bound population.

Parks has a bachelor’s degree in communication and pre-nursing from Denison University and a master’s degree in nursing from DePaul University. She currently is enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program at Purdue University, where she is a member of the Golden Key Honor Society.

“PSC only tenures outstanding and exceptional faculty members because of our tenure process,” Atewologun said. “Ms. Parks’ tenure committee praised her organization skills, her ability to encourage students to participate in a way that fosters mutual respect, her commitment to nursing education, and her contributions to the department,” he said.
