Chicago Heights, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Prairie State College (PSC) recently became a member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) to further campus efforts toward building a healthy and just world. Through membership in AASHE, PSC will receive support in advancing its sustainability initiatives throughout the institution and in the community.
PSC stepped up its sustainability efforts in 2008, when college President Eric Radtke formed a Sustainability Task Force to gather data and make recommendations to help make PSC a leader in promoting the advancement of sustainability goals within the college’s curriculum, facilities, and the community. As a continuation of those efforts, the college formed a Sustainability Center in 2011 which is embarking on several new initiatives.
“Prairie State is committed to reducing its environmental footprint to be a responsible steward of our community and planet, as well as providing our students with skills to participate in the emerging green economy. AASHE will be a great resource for us as we move in this direction,” said Beth Koprowski, sustainability coordinator at PSC.
“We are delighted to have Prairie State College on board and participating in the campus sustainability community,” said Paul Rowland, executive director of AASHE. “This shows a real commitment to playing a leadership role in some of the biggest challenges of our time, and provides the campus community with access to thousands of examples of best practices in campus sustainability.”
AASHE enables higher education institutions to meet their sustainability goals by providing specialized resources, professional development, and a network of peer support. Membership covers every individual at an institution, so the entire campus community can take advantage of member benefits. To further its mission of empowering higher education to lead the sustainability transformation, AASHE provides resources, professional development, and a network of support to enable institutions of higher education to model sustainability in all areas, from governance and operations to education and research.
