Prairie State College Partners with Local Organizations to Provide Water to Flint Michigan Residents

Flint water drive

CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–September 26, 2016.  Prairie State College (PSC) is partnering with the Veterans of Foreign War Post 311, 308 Civil Affairs Brigade Family Readiness Group, National Women Veterans United, Marian Catholic High School and other participating schools to collect cases of water, as well as distilled water, for the residents of Flint, Mich.

The water supply in Flint was switched from Lake Huron to the Flint River, in order to save the state money. According to reports from CNN.com, soon after the switch, residents said the water often looked dirty and smelled and tasted “funny.” As a result, the community has been exposed to high levels of contamination. According to reports, the water is not only dangerous to drink, it is also unsafe to use for bathing. PSC is taking this opportunity help those in need of clean water by collecting donations.

The goal for the college is to collect more than 100 cases of water by Oct. 14. Donations can be dropped off in the atrium on the main PSC campus located at 202 South Halsted in Chicago Heights. The water collected by all the partners in the initiative will then be transported to flint by KLLM Transport Services, who are donating a driver and truck to support the effort.
