CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–September 18, 2015.  In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, Prairie State College (PSC) is hosting “Public/Private,” an exhibition of Hispanic mural artists showing studio work, from Monday, September 21 to Thursday, October 22. The exhibit is being held in the Christopher Art Gallery, located on the PSC main campus at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.

The exhibit features artists Hector Duarte, José Guerrero and José L. Piña Morales. All three are widely known in Chicago for their community mural work, found primarily in Pilsen.

“Their monumental and colorful murals give voice to the Hispanic community there on issues of immigration, Hispanic identity, social change and cultural history,” said Beth Shadur, gallery director and exhibit curator. “The murals celebrate the community, its traditions and heroes – telling stories and providing a visual richness of the heritage and history of the community.”

At 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, there will be a talk on murals given by Chicago writer Jeff Huebner, in the Heritage Bank Room in the Conference Center on campus. A reception with the artists will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. that evening in the gallery.

The Christopher Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Visits also can be made by appointment. For more information about the exhibit or to make an appointment for a visit, call 708-709-7738.
