Prairie State College Speech Team Wins Several Awards in State Speech Tournament


CHICAGO HEIGHTS—(ENEWSPF)—March 18, 2014. The Prairie State College (PSC) speech team placed fifth in the community college division and brought home several individual awards during the Illinois Intercollegiate Forensics Association (IIFA) State Speech Tournament hosted by Bradley University.

Destin Patton-Warner of Riverdale received fourth place for dramatic interpretation and sixth place for prose interpretation. DaQuawn Bruce of Riverdale received second place for poetry interpretation and second place for oratory. Jasmine Ross of Richton Park received second place for prose interpretation. Sanni Mohammed-Haruna of Homewood received fourth place for program oral interpretation and fifth place for impromptu speaking. Allysha Nobles of Park Forest received sixth place for dramatic interpretation.

Also competing was Censarray Wilson of South Holland. The team was coached by PSC Professors David Naze, Elighie Wilson, and Ed Schwarz.

“We are so proud of our students,” said Naze. “In terms of experience, this is the youngest team we’ve ever taken to the state tournament, yet they performed and competed like seasoned veterans, and the results showed.”
