Chicago Heights, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Two Prairie State College (PSC) alumni will be featured in the next Christopher Art Gallery Exhibit, Shifting Paradigms. The exhibit runs November 15- December 15. An artists’ reception is scheduled for Thursday, November 18 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Margaret Patton, of Frankfort, and Karen Sparrow, of Portage, Ind., will each have a series of photographs on display. Both Sparrow’s and Patton’s photographs reconstruct images to present a distinct view of an alternate reality.

“Much of my work over the last seven years has centered on photographically deconstructing a building and then putting it back together again in an unexpected way,” said Sparrow. “Over the years, my work has undergone an evolution into something much more abstract. No longer is the focus only on a building, but also on form, shadow, and line or a blending of all three.”

Patton’s work focuses on two themes “Symmetry” and the “Art of Aging Gracefully.”

“Symmetry is the simplest and most obvious type of balance. It creates a secure, safe feeling and a sense of stability,” said Patton. “Growing old is a mandatory process. For women, for a period of time, we might even resist aging as we try hard to fight off wrinkles and hang on to the physical beauty of our faces. Getting old is a natural process when things are slowing down, and you’ll begin to see that sparkle in your heart and the twinkle in your eyes that made you beautiful in a way that’s not achievable with youth.”

Hours for the Christopher Art Gallery are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. Visits can be made by appointment.
