Rich East Grad Jon Asamoah Receives Honor

Champaigne, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Rich East graduate Jon Asamoah, Class of 2006, who is an anchor for the University of Illinois Fighting Illini, has been named of of 16 finalists for the Campbell Trophy. The Campbell Trophy is presented by the NFL Foundation and the College Football Hall of Fame. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Asamoah has started more than three-dozen games at guard for the Illini and has excelled in the classroom, earning first-team Academic All-District Honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Campbell Trophy winner receives $25,000 in scholarship money. All the finalists receive an $18,000 scholarship toward post-graduate studies. Tim Tebow of Florida and Colt McCoy of Texas are among the 16 finalists. Asamoah, is majoring in community health. The Park Forest resident was a Wendy’s High School Nominee for outstanding achievement in athletics, academics and community service. He also earned the Cook County Circuit Court – Black History Award for Academics and Community Service.
