Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)- eNews Park Forest continues with our series of stellar students from Rich East High School. Mr. Kevin Kredens, the school’s publicity liaison, provides each student a series of the same questions. All responses are in the students’ exact words, except for minor editing for content and space when needed.

We are pleased to feature Katrina Halfaker, currently second in her class, and listens to Fleet Foxes and Freelance Whales on her Zune.

Meet Katrina Halfaker:

  1. Are you a Park Forest Resident? How long?  Yup. My whole life.
  2. At Rich East all four years? Yes. All four arduous, interesting years.
  3. What do you like the most about Rich East? I like the teachers. They do the best they can with what they have, and for staying in an area many people are weary of and judge for the sake of us. I think they’re the best of people.
  4. Favorite classes and why. I don’t pick favorites. I don’t think I’ve ever had a class I didn’t enjoy.
  5. Favorite teachers/coaches and why. Teachers: Mr. (Mike) Blomarz because I’ve never seen a better parent-teacher hybrid, aside from Ms. (Stephanie) Tijerina. Coaches: Mr. (Sean) Coughlin because he has the best jokes. J
  6. GPA/Class Rank. GPA is 3.84/4.0 and class rank is 2nd /203.
  7. ACT: 26.
  8. Areas met or exceeded on PSAE.  ALL.
  9. AP Exams?  Scores? AP English 5, AP United States History 4.
  10. What are you listening to on your iPod these days? I don’t own an iPod, I have Zune. To answer the question, Fleet Foxes, Freelance Whales and whatever else.
  11. What is the last book you have read? The last thing I read was a play – “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The book I am reading now is “If Minds Had Toes.”
  12. Favorite TV Shows? Big Bang Theory, Antiques Roadshow, and NOVA. But … I don’t watch TV often. Maybe an hour or two a week, depending.
  13. Places that you’d most like to visit?  Ireland, Tanzania, Russia.
  14. Activities/Athletics/Clubs  participated in?   Special awards?  (9th) Drama/Thespians/Mathletes; (10th) Soccer/Speech/Thespians/Mathletes; (11th) Thespians/Mathletes/Scholastic Bowl/French National Honor Society; (12th) Mathletes/French National Honor Society/Scholastic Bowl {and we took first place in conference this year J}
  15. Clubs, hobbies, community/church. Special volunteering in community?  I like collecting old books, but I rarely have money, so that hobby has been neglected; I like collecting stones; I work for BHYC (Beacon Hill Youth Commission). (It involves service to the community in a way).
  16. College choice?  Major? University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Major in Creative Writing.
  17. Where do you want to be in five years?  In ten years?  In five years: my apartment with my cat, typing away, expressing ideas after a long day at work; In 10 years: No clue.
