Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Last week, Rich East High School in Park Forest again participated in the Scholastic Book Fair. The Scholastic Book Fair is a national organization which assists school in obtaining books, posters and supplies students and staff at reduced prices, and in turn earn proceeds which can add to classroom and teacher libraries.

This marked the the third year for Rich East, one of the few high schools in the Chicago area to participate in the week-long program. The book fair is usually held twice a year, one week in the fall and one week in the spring. The fund-raising goal was $1000, according to English and Reading teacher, Nicole Mancione, who has coordinated and supervised the book fair the past two years.

Mancione added that it gives the students a great opportunity to buy their favorite books, posters and supplies and reduced prices while also helping their school. The reading teachers use the percentage earned so they can add onto their classroom libraries. Each teacher received about $100 in free books and Scholastic products.

"Last year, we earned more than that, both times and we raised approximately $1,200 to $1,300 dollars," Mancione said. "The kids really seem to like the books and other items and they are doing more reading. That’s always a good thing."
