Statement from Dept. of Education on House Republicans Advancing Major Cuts to Education Funding

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–June 19, 2015

“At a time when America’s kids need more and better education to compete with their peers around the world, House Republicans have advanced a proposal that shortchanges students at every level—from pre-k through college—while stifling innovation and incorporating ideological riders that would block much-needed college accountability. Instead of investing in America’s future, their proposal would cut discretionary resources for education by $2.8 billion, a serious disservice to students, parents, and educators around the country. The President has proposed a common sense plan to reverse sequestration and fully pay for it, invest in our students and teachers, and reduce the deficit. Republicans in Congress should join us in that effort.”
