University Park, Ill.—(ENEWSPF)–March 13, 2014 – Governors State University welcomes the Montana Repertory Theater’s production of William Gibson’s play, “The Miracle Worker,” which will play at the Center for Performing Arts Friday, March 21 at 8 p.m.
“The Miracle Worker” tells the story of Helen Keller, deaf and blind since infancy, who finds her way into the world of knowledge and understanding with the help of Anne Sullivan, her gifted tutor. In some of the most turbulent and emotion-packed scenes ever presented on the stage, Helen overcomes rage and confusion to triumph over her physical disabilities. “The Miracle Worker” won the 1960 Tony Award for Best Play.
In conjunction with the performance, there will be two art exhibits on display. GSU’s Art on Campus program features art work from Little City Arts and Project Onward in the “Art Gathering: ABILITY” exhibit that can be seen throughout campus. These two Chicago organizations provide support and opportunities for individuals with disabilities to make and promote their art. The exhibit is now showing and will run until March 28.
For the other exhibit, guest curator Sarah Krepp took inspiration from Helen Keller’s energy, drive and fortitude to curate “Inner Sight/Insight: Driven to Dare,” which can be seen in the Visual Arts Gallery. This exhibit will run from March 17 to April 8.
Attendees are encouraged to enjoy the exhibitions prior to the performance during a free reception from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the E Lounge. Tickets for the performance start at $25. Tickets for seniors 65 and older are $20.
