University of Chicago student organizers will hold three free, public No Bannon teach-ins opposing an announced university speaking event with former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon.

On Friday, February 16, panelists affiliated with the University of Chicago and DePaul student organizers who protested against a Milo Yiannopoulos event will discuss freedom of speech, student safety and other concerns about allowing controversial speakers on campus. Called “No Bannon: More Than Freedom of Speech – University of Chicago Teach-In,” this event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church of Chicago, Hull Chapel, 5650 S. Woodlawn Ave., Chicago, IL 60637.

One week later, on Friday, February 23, South Side community organizers will address the repercussions of University of Chicago policies in the Hyde Park community, including access to emergency medical care and discrimination against immigrants and minorities. “No Bannon: More Than Freedom of Speech – Community Teach-In” will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at
235 E. 58th St., Chicago, IL 60637.

On Monday, February 26, speakers will examine the university’s current and historical effect on African-Americans in a teach-in titled “From Stephen Douglas to Stephen Bannon: Slavery, White Supremacy, and Reparations at UChicago.” This talk will be held at 6 p.m. at McCormick Tribune Lounge in Hutchinson Commons, 5706 S. University Ave., Chicago, IL 60637.

University of Chicago student organizers and community activists have been protesting the Bannon event since it was announced last month. Professor Luigi Zingales of the Booth School of Business invited Bannon to speak at the university. The university has not announced when the Bannon event will take place.
