State Rep. DeLuca Hosts Women’s Self-Defense Seminar

CRETE–(ENEWSPF)–June 28, 2009.  State Representative Anthony DeLuca (D-Chicago Heights) announced this week that he will hold a free Women’s Self-Defense Seminar on Wednesday, July 15, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bloom Township Center located at 425 South Halsted St., in Chicago Heights.  The purpose of this meeting is to help local area women learn how to defend themselves and protect their safety.

“Events like this provide women with an opportunity to network and socialize, and enjoy each other’s company,” DeLuca said.  “At the same time they will be given critical information and advice that may save their life one day.”

The presentation will be given by Frank Sharp, Jr. who is an instructor with Defense Training Internaional (DTI).  Sharp’s courses provide training for individuals in self-defense, firearm safety and discuss the impact of crime on society.  Sharp will be on hand to give attendees an overview of effective self-defense strategies for women and will instruct participants in a few basics of self-defense exercises.

“This seminar will be fun, interactive and potentially life-saving,” DeLuca said.  “Being informed on how to avoid dangerous situations and learning what to do when one’s safety is threatened is critical for all women.”

The seminar is free and open to the public.  Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and footwear.  Women under the age of 18 are welcome to listen to the presentation being given by Sharp, but participants in the self-defense portion of the seminar must be 18 years of age and over.

For more information or to RSVP for this free seminar, please contact DeLuca’s constituent service office at 708-672-0200.
