Congresswomen Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Robin Kelly (IL-02) released a video debunking five common myths about this year’s Open Enrollment period.

In the video, they debunk the myths and inform Illinoisans that:

  • You can sign up for quality, affordable healthcare from now until December 15th,
  • Financial assistance is available and an estimated 8 out of 10 Illinoisans qualify for help paying their premiums,
  • Individuals already enrolled can shop around during Open Enrollment for a cheaper or better plan, and
  • Having insurance is extremely important for everyone, even young, healthy people and residents without insurance could face a penalty of $695.

Over the coming weeks, the video will be shared across the Congresswomen’s social media channels.

“With all the chatter of repealing Obamacare this year, it is more important now than ever to let people now that Obamacare is alive and ready for you to enroll,” said Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky. “From now until December 15th, you and your family can sign up for quality, affordable health insurance by going to www.getcovered.illinois.gov. You may qualify for help paying your premiums, so don’t wait and don’t be late!”

“This White House has significantly reduced the Open Enrollment timeframe and cut 90 percent of the promotional funding, so it’s up to us to ensure our neighbors and constituents know the facts from the myths,” said Congresswoman Kelly. “In the coming weeks, I will do everything in my power to ensure that the people living in the 2nd Congressional district know how to get affordable health insurance for themselves and their families before December 15th.”
