Matteson, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Tommy Hawk is a symbol for one of hockey’s most promising teams, and for one night, the Chicago Blackhawks mascot will be on hand to pose for photos at Sertoma Centre’s BIG Event Fundraiser and Firefighters’ Cook-off on Saturday, May 16th.

The annual BIG Event held at 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park is Sertoma Centre’s signature fundraiser, and features some of the very best firehouse recipes throughout the Chicagoland area.

Over the last few months, firefighters from local firehouses have been signing up to compete in the chicken, chili, ribs or ethnic categories.

A celebrity panel will be on hand to judge each recipe’s merits. Judges include ESPN Radio’s Chet Coppock, WGN-TV’s Dan Roan, former Chicago Blackhawk Grant Mulvey, NBC-5’s Peggy Kusinski and former Chicago Bear Brian Baschnagle.

Entries will be judged on taste and presentation as well as crowd popularity, but the ultimate decision lies with the panel of judges who will crown this year’s champions, and present each with one of Sertoma Centre’s four traveling trophies.

These BIG Event competitors are master chefs looking for a friendly challenge, and there’s no contesting that the recipes are the undisputed stars of the night.

After sampling a few of these dishes, kids of all ages will be able to pose for a photo with Tommy Hawk and participate in a number of activities including face painting and arts and crafts. Juggling extraordinaire Dave Fleming will also put in an appearance. Not to mention there is always plenty of room for more pairs of feet on the dance floor.

The event will feature entertainment by the Southsiders, the Ed Hill Band, and Erica Lozzo, and there will be plenty of chances to win BIG prizes, including the BIG Event Raffle’s $5,000 grand prize.

Tommy Hawk will be available for photos from 6-7 p.m. The event will go from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults (ten food tickets) and $5 for kids (5 food tickets),
