Village Board to Consider Resolution Honoring Barack Obama


Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– The Park Forest Village Board Monday will consider a resolution honoring President-Elect Barack Obama. The resolution will be signed by the entire board and emphasizes Obama’s roots and accomplishments in Illinois.

The resolution reads:

WHEREAS, Barack Obama was elected on November 4, 2008, to the post of President of the United States of America; and

WHEREAS, Barack Obama is the first African American citizen of the United States of America to be elected to the nation’s highest office; and

WHEREAS, Barack Obama was serving, at the time of his election as President of the United States, in the position of junior United States Senator from the State of Illinois, having been elected to that post in November of 2004; and

WHEREAS, prior to his election as United States Senator, Barack Obama served with distinction as an Illinois State Senator from Chicago’s south side 13th Senatorial District from 1997 to 2004; and

WHEREAS, Barack Obama captured the imagination of the nation’s citizens by his eloquent keynote address to the Democratic National Convention in Boston in the summer of 2004, thus being propelled into national prominence; and

WHEREAS, Barack Obama has brought distinction to the State of Illinois by his “favorite son” status.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Park Forest Village Board, acting on behalf of the citizens of the Village of Park Forest, extend to President-Elect Barack Obama our most sincere congratulations on his great achievement; and

FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Park Forest Village Board, acting on behalf of the citizens of the Village of Park Forest, extend to President-Elect Barack Obama our very best wishes for his success in leading our nation in the current period of travail; and

FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Barack Obama as part of the national celebration of his inauguration on January 20, 2009, as the 44th President of the United States of America.

Adopted this 12th day of January in the year 2009 of the Common Era by the Village Board of the Village of Park Forest, Cook and Will Counties, Illinois, and to which are affixed the signatures of those voting for its adoption.

Other items before the board for action Monday include a motion to approve an amendment to Engineering Services Agreement for 2009 water main replacement and approval of minutes. There is first reading on three addional items: An Ordinance Amending Chapter 86 of the Code of Ordinances (Solid Waste) for the Village of Park Forest, Cook and Will Counties; An Ordinance Amending Chapter 118 (“Zoning”) of the Code of Ordinances, Article III (“Districts”), Section 118-152 (“Commercial Requirements”) and adopting a new Section 118-155 (“Conditional Uses”); and An Ordinance Granting a Conditional Use for a Food Production Facility at Orchard Park Plaza, located at 138 S. Orchard Drive.
