WBBM’s Felicia Middlebrooks at Freedom Hall Saturday


Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— WBBM Newsradio 780’s Felicia Middlebrooks will headline the Village of Park Forest’s Black History Month Celebration entitled, “Black Filmmakers, Telling Our Own Stories.”

Middlebrooks, a writer, director and producer, will present and discuss her first film production, the 2004 documentary “Somebody’s Child: The Redemption of Rwanda” at the Feature Presentation event Saturday, February 16th at 3:00 p.m. at Freedom Hall’s Nathan Manilow Theater, 410 Lakewood Blvd.

The picture won the Grand Jury Prize for best short documentary at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival in December 2005.

“We are absolutely thrilled that Mrs. Middlebrooks will share her film and her journey of service, expression, and achievement,” said Community Relations Coordinator, Crescent Muhammad.

A journalist of over 30 years, Middlebrooks is the first woman in the nation to co-anchor mornings for CBS Radio and the first African-American in that position. Middlebrooks appearance is expected to draw hundreds of area residents and aspiring filmmakers and journalists. Prior to her presentation, local elementary students will enact a "Living Museum" by capturing the spirit of historial figures through costume, speech and visual components.

Commissioner of the Human Relations Committee of Park Forest, Michael Elliot says, “The event promises to be one of the most exciting, creative, and informative Black History Month events in the Chicago Area.” This year, the Commission has planned a month long celebration to demonstrate the outstanding achievements of blacks in the film industry. The Village of Park Forest , V103 radio and the Museum of Science and Industry have partnered to present the “Fridays in February Black Film Showcase.”

The Film Festival will feature a ground breaking black film shown at Eagle Movie Theatre, 340 Main Street, on four Fridays in February. The first film, Down In the Delta, will be shown Friday, February 1st with features Lady Sings The Blues, Do The Right Thing and The Wiz scheduled for future showings.
