Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— Residents can dispose of sensitive documents and unused medications while doing Spring Cleaning. Park Forest will host a Shred, Drug Take-Back Event on Saturday, April 25.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at the corner of Forest Boulevard and Lakewood Boulevard. This is across from the Park Forest Police Station. Officials welcome anyone in the surrounding area, regardless of residency.
Staff will provide on-site shredding services, limiting each vehicle to two boxes or bags of paper. They will only accept sensitive paper documents. Workers will ask participants to remove binder clips, plastic sleeves, and three-ring binders before arrival. Staff will also collect prescription medications, but will not accept liquids or sharps.
“This event is about giving people a safe, secure, and convenient way to dispose of items that could otherwise pose a risk if not handled properly,” said Park Forest Sustainability Coordinator Carrie Malfeo.
Benefits of Shred and Drug Take-Back Events

Malfeo explained that improperly disposing of documents can lead to identity theft. Leaving unused medications in homes can contribute to environmental harm or misuse.
“We want to help residents protect their personal information and also keep potentially dangerous substances out of our waterways and communities,” Malfeo said. “Events like this make it easy to do the right thing.”
Organizers designed the event as a drive-up service. This allows participants to remain in their vehicles while staff collect materials directly from their trunks.
“That convenience is key,” Malfeo added. “We know people are busy. So, creating a simple, quick process encourages more participation and ultimately leads to a safer, cleaner community.”
Village officials encourage residents to arrive early, since the event will last only during the designated two-hour window or until capacity is reached.
