New Report Confirms Solitary Confinement in Federal Prisons Largely Unchecked

WASHINGTON–(ENEWSPF)–May 31, 2013.  The Federal Bureau of Prisons does not adequately monitor its use of solitary confinement and other segregated housing and should evaluate the effect of long-term segregation on prisoners, according to a report released by the Government Accountability Office today. The Bureau currently holds about seven percent of its population, or more than 12,000 prisoners, in segregated housing.
