Amnesty International Remembers the Victims of the September 11th Attacks

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–September 11, 2012.  Our thoughts are with the victims of the September 11th attacks and their families.

The attacks were a crime against humanity. The victims–like all victims of human rights abuses–have the right to justice, truth and redress. Eleven years on, these rights remain unfulfilled. The US government must act now to change this.

The rights of victims and survivors to medical and psychological care, and to truth and justice, must be fulfilled. Those responsible for the September 11th attacks must be brought to justice in fair trials in federal court without recourse to the death penalty. Indefinite detention and unfair trials at Guantánamo must end.

While the U.S. government has recognized that human rights are the basis for justice, security and freedom, it must act now to ensure that the respect and fulfillment of human rights is the cornerstone of any and all policies to support the victims of the September 11th attacks and prevent future attacks.

Amnesty International is a Nobel Peace Prize-winning grassroots activist organization with more than 3 million supporters, activists and volunteers in more than 150 countries campaigning for human rights worldwide. The organization investigates and exposes abuses, educates and mobilizes the public, and works to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied.
