Center for American Progress: Administration’s College Ratings Plan Will Ensure Quality and Value for Students, Taxpayers

Washington, D.C. —(ENEWSPF)–December 19, 2014.  Carmel Martin, Executive Vice President for Policy at the Center for American Progress, today issued the following statement after the Obama administration released its college ratings plan. Previously, Martin served as assistant secretary for planning, evaluation, and policy development at the U.S. Department of Education.

The creation of a college ratings system will make quality and value—for students and taxpayers alike—a central part of our higher-education system. This accountability system will help protect students from poor-performing institutions and ensure the integrity of our federal student aid programs, while highlighting our nation’s best-performing institutions. We all have a stake in ensuring college success and completion for our country’s students, and the Obama administration’s plan released today is a meaningful and responsible step toward better outcomes for students. We applaud the administration’s openness to additional input, which can only make the final rating system better.
