Friends of the Earth: House Leadership Pulls Interior, EPA Spending Bill Over Confederate Flag

WASHINGTON, D.C. —(ENEWSPF)—July 9, 2015. This morning House Republican leadership pulled HR 2822, The Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Act, 2016, over a controversial amendment that would have stripped a provision barring the Confederate flag from being displayed in cemeteries and sold in stores operated by the National Park Service.

Friends of the Earth Climate and Energy Campaigner Lukas Ross issued the following statement in response:

This spending bill is finally drowning under the weight of its own extremism. Apparently the only thing that matters more to House Republican leadership than sacrificing American’s air and water is defending the legacy of slavery. We can only hope that this bill stays dead and buried.
