Grassroots Collaborative Statement of Support for Nursing Home Workers on Picket Line

Chicago, IL –(ENEWSPF)–April 8, 2017.  Grassroots Collaborative supports the over 10,000 nursing home workers who are walking picket lines today across the Chicagoland area. These workers, members of SEIU Healthcare, work at for-profit nursing homes and have not had a raise in 3 years and have reached an impasse in bargaining.

“These workers do the important work of caring for our elders and people with disabilities. The fact that the nursing home owners are proposing that they be allowed to pay their employees less than the minimum wage, is morally reprehensible. We must stand with these workers to demand that they be treated with dignity and respect,” stated Abbie Illenberger, Field Director of Grassroots Collaborative.

Grassroots Collaborative supports the workers’ struggle to win the wages and benefits they deserve, and the care that the residents deserve.
