NRDC: “A Major Weakening of the Clean Air Act”
WASHINGTON–(ENEWSPF)–March 6, 2014 – The House today passed a destructive bill to block the first-ever national safeguards against carbon pollution, which would represent a major weakening of the Clean Air Act, the Natural Resources Defense Council said.
“At a time when we need to urgently combat climate change, Congress should be working on a cure — not rubber-stamping a pollution industry plan to make it impossible for the Environmental Protection Agency to fulfill its responsibility to end unlimited dumping of carbon pollution into our atmosphere,” said Franz Matzner, associate government affairs director at NRDC.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.) now goes to the Senate, where no action is expected.
“If this bill were to become law, it would seriously cripple the Obama Administration’s ongoing drive to curb dangerous carbon pollution, which is harming our air, our lands and our waters, and push us ever faster on a path to unmanageable climate disruption,” said Dan Lashof, program director of the Climate and Clean Air Program at NRDC.
