Bill is Boon for Dirty Energy
WASHINGTON–(ENEWSPF)–December 3, 2015 – The House today passed an energy bill filled with outdated energy policies that continue to favor the fossil fuel industry above all other priorities. The bill would lift the ban on crude oil exports, allow pipelines to cut through our National Parks, broadly roll back environmental protections on energy infrastructure, weaken building energy efficiency standards that have reduced costs to consumers and helped combat climate change – all while ignoring clean energy and climate change.
The following is a statement by Kit Kennedy, director of the Energy and Transportation Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council:
“This measure would propel the United States in the wrong direction. What we need is the exact opposite: forward-looking policies that enable and expedite clean energy technologies that cut pollution and consumer costs. At a time when the world is meeting to address the threat of climate change, this bill’s singular focus on promoting new fossil fuel development could actually increase U.S. carbon emissions while putting communities across the country at risk.
Earlier this week, the White House said President Obama would veto H.R. 8, also known as the North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act of 2015.
