Planned Parenthood Statement on World Contraception Day

NEW YORK–(ENEWSPF)–September 26, 2013.  Planned Parenthood Federation of America released the following statement today in recognition of September 26, World Contraception Day.

Statement of Latanya Mapp Frett, Vice President – Global, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:

“Today is World Contraception Day, a day to raise our voices to advocate for a world where every woman, man and young person is empowered to make informed decisions on sexual and reproductive health. It is also a critical moment to examine the health and rights of young people, whose access to reproductive health information and services is too often hindered for unscientific, ideological and political reasons.

“Young people need real information and tools to avoid unintended pregnancy. When young people are able to choose whether, when and how many children to have, it not only improves their health, it also affects the trajectory of their lives, improving their ability to stay in school, get an education, pursue meaningful careers and invest back into their communities. Yet gaps in access remain, with young people citing   fear and embarrassment as a prime obstacle.

“Such needless and persistent gaps in access to contraception are unacceptable. This World Contraception Day, stand with Planned Parenthood to support investment in family planning supplies and services — in the U.S. and around the world — for women, men and especially young people. Together, we have the power to make this the healthiest generation ever.”
