SEIU: In Recognition of Veteran’s Day

Washington, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–November 11, 2012. Following is a statement by SEIU President Mary Kay Henry in recognition of Veteran’s Day.

“Every day, we wake up in a free nation thanks to the brave men and women who put everything on the line to serve our country. We owe our gratitude to past and present service members.

“SEIU members from coast to coast proudly and actively serve in the military here and abroad, and their families share in that service. We are humbled by the commitment of tens of thousands of SEIU members who have served in the armed forces in the past. We are grateful for the SEIU members who are committed to providing quality care to active duty and retired veterans in hospitals and at home every day.

“The SEIU family believes that our nation must honor our veterans by ensuring that they have access to good jobs, and that they and their families have access to vital services like healthcare and education when they return home.

“As a country, we need to redouble our commitment to ensuring those who have sacrificed so much for the rest of us have the fullest opportunity to thrive and to support their families. As members of Congress return to Washington, they must remember our responsibility to ensure that the livelihood and well-being of our veterans is at the forefront of our national policy agenda.”
