WASHINGTON, D.C. –(ENEWSPF)–December 8, 2016.  Today, President-elect Donald Trump announced that he plans to appoint fast food CEO Andrew Puzderas the head of the U.S. Department of Labor.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

“Andrew Puzder and Donald Trump are trying to pull one over on the American people faster than you can get through the Hardees drive-through. Puzder is a proponent of the same corporate model that poisons our planet — the fast food chains that pay so little that their own workers can’t afford to eat the very food they sell while running global supply chains that emit the extreme levels of carbon pollution that’s destroying our climate. While Puzder was arguing against a liveable wage for his workers, forcing  his workers to survive without the ability to cover their basic needs like food, health care, child care, rent and transportation, while bearing the brunt of their employer’s corporate pollution, his fast food corporation raked in millions in profits.

“Trump’s nomination of Andrew Puzder as Labor Secretary continues his long line of backwards nominees focused on protecting corporate interests over the health, safety, and prosperity of the American people.

“Working families and the American people deserve better than Puzder. The American workforce deserves a Labor Secretary that supports investing in people, paid family leave, and paying all employees a living wage.”
