Top Romney Surrogate Misleads Voters on Romney’s Anti-Choice Agenda

Washington, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–October 30, 2012.  Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, refuted claims made by top Romney surrogate former Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN) that Roe v. Wade was not in danger should Romney become president.

On Monday, Coleman told a group of voters in Ohio that the landmark Supreme Court decision recognizing the constitutional right to choose would not be overturned in a Romney presidency.

“With just days leading up to the election, Mitt Romney has now decided to let his anti-choice allies do the lying for him,” Keenan said. “Sen. Coleman is the latest anti-choice surrogate to mislead voters about Romney’s true agenda against reproductive rights. Romney has called for the repeal of Roe v. Wade and has threatened to nominate Supreme Court justices who share his views if elected. Mitt Romney has been very vocal about his support for policies and candidates who want to restrict reproductive rights for women, and voters should take him at his word.”

Coleman is the latest Romney ally to put the right to choose at the forefront of the campaign. Just last week, the Romney-endorsed Senate candidate from Indiana Richard Mourdock sparked controversy when he declared that, “even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.” Romney has not withdrawn his endorsement of Mourdock’s campaign.

“This election comes down to two very different ideals for our country,” Keenan continued. “We can either allow our country to fall into the hands of an anti-choice candidate like Romney who refuses to trust women to make their own health-care decisions, or we can support President Obama who not only trusts women, but has made concrete advances for women’s reproductive rights.”
