VoteVets Statement on Russian Hacking

VoteVets.org

WASHINGTON –(ENEWSPF)–December 12, 2016.  In light of the latest reports regarding Russian hacking aimed at influencing the 2016 Presidential Election, the largest progressive group of veterans in America, VoteVets.org, released the following. In a statement, retired Major General Paul D. Eaton, senior adviser to VoteVets.org called on all information that can be declassified to be released to the public, and for a Congressional investigation to take place, to look into what we do not yet know.
Eaton’s statement is below.
“When you see a President-elect of the United States so enamored by the Russian regime, as well as are his National Security Adviser and potential Secretary of State, and then find out the Russian government interfered in our election to help that side, it is cause for alarm.
We join Senator Wyden and other Intelligence Committee members in calling for materials on Russian hacking that can be declassified to be immediately released to the public. We also join the group of 10 electoral college members that recently asked for all materials to be turned over to them, on this matter.  We do not need an investigation to tell us what evidence and information the CIA found. The American people deserve to see those materials right now.
But we also join the growing bipartisan group of Senators in calling for Congressional investigations into what we still do not know. Specifically, did anyone in the Trump campaign, or anyone connected to the campaign know about this plot? A thorough investigation will be able to determine that, and more.
What cannot be allowed to happen, however, is this issue to be dismissed and brushed aside with the hope that the press and the American people will just lose interest.   The security of the United States and of the electoral system on which it is based is too important for that to be allowed to happen.”
