VoteVets.org Condems Romney Advisor’s ‘Low’ Remarks on Attacks At Diplomatics Posts

“Mitt Romney cares more about his political aspirations and ego than he does about American security” – Iraq Vet, former Congressman Patrick Murphy

WASHINGTON, DC –(ENEWSPF)–September 15, 2012. The largest progressive group of veterans in America, with over 220,000 supporters, VoteVets.org, is criticizing Romney campaign advisor, former George W. Bush official Richard Williamson for his outrageous contention that attacks on US diplomatic posts in Libya and Egypt would not have happened if Mitt Romney was President.

In an interview with The Washington Post, today, Williamson said, “There’s a pretty compelling story that if you had a President Romney, you’d be in a different situation.”

In response, former Congressman Patrick Murphy, an Iraq War Veteran, said:

“Sending Richard Williamson out to so cravenly try to politically capitalize on the deaths of American diplomats shows how low the Romney campaign has sunk.  Further, his contention that radical terrorists attack diplomatic missions because President Obama is president, and not Mitt Romney, is as laughable as it is wrong.

I would never contend that terrorists attacked US Diplomatic compounds in Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Greece, Serbia, Turkey and Yemen because Richard Williamson advised and supported President George W. Bush’s American foreign policy leading up to those attacks.  I would never lay blame for the murders of American diplomats in Sudan and Jordan, in 2008, at the feet of Richard Williamson, even though it was policies that he backed, and is advising Mitt Romney to back, which were in place at the time of those murders.

The fact of the matter is that those who seek to do us harm do not look for political reasons to do so, nor do they care who sits in the Oval Office.  What matters is whether a President does what it takes to bring terrorists to justice, as President Obama has done by killing Osama bin Laden and countless top Al Qaeda leaders.  This is a time for Mitt Romney’s campaign to step up and reject any idea that America is divided in our resolve to bring the murderers in Libya to justice, and support all efforts to do just that.  Sadly, it has become all too clear that Mitt Romney cares more about his political aspirations and ego than he does about American security.”

Founded in 2006,  and backed by over 220,000 members, the mission of VoteVets.org is to use public issue campaigns and direct outreach to lawmakers to ensure that troops abroad have what they need to complete their missions, and receive the care they deserve when they get home.  VoteVets.org also recognizes veterans as a vital part of the fabric of our country and will work to protect veterans’ interests in their day-to-day lives.   VoteVets.org is committed to the destruction of terror networks around the world – with force when necessary – to protect America.  While non-partisan, the group is the largest progressive organization of veterans in America.
