VoteVets.org Objects to Congressman Gerlach’s Racial Politics, Says Voters Have a Chance to Elect An American Patriot in Trivedi

BIRDSBORO, PA–(ENEWSPF)–August 23, 2012.  The largest group of progressive veterans in America, with 220,000 members, is taking issue with Congressman Jim Gerlach’s contention that Iraq War Veteran and child of immigrants, Manan Trivedi, is “foreign” to the 6th Congressional District.  Trivedi is challenging Gerlach for Congress this year.

“Manan Trivedi served our nation in war, and is more of a patriotic American than Congressman Gerlach could possibly fathom,” said Jon Soltz, Iraq War Veteran and Chairman of VoteVets.org.  “Congressman Gerlach’s middle-school-level racial taunts are exactly what’s wrong with Washington politics, and are beneath the office he holds.  It’s time to send a grown-up to Congress – someone who represents the very best of America, and what unites us.  The 6th District has a great opportunity to do that, by sending Manan Trivedi to Congress.”

Despite the fact that Trivedi’s home was in the district until recent redistricting moved it just across the border, Gerlach’s campaign sent out a press release regarding a recent Trivedi event saying, “The listening tour actually allowed [Trivedi] to quickly get a handle on just what voters in this foreign district care about most.”

VoteVets.org PAC previously endorsed Trivedi for Congress.

Founded in 2006, the mission of VoteVets.org Political Action Committee is to elect Veterans to public office, with a focus on Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, and hold public officials accountable for their words and actions that impact America’s 21st century troops and veterans. Though VoteVets.org PAC is non-partisan, candidates it backs must support VoteVets.org’s core mission and beliefs.
