Why I Care Less for ‘Breaking News from ABCNEWS.com’

Commentary

ABCNews.com needs to get its act together.

Time after time, I receive a "Breaking News" alert from the news powerhouse, only to be disappointed when I click through to read a story.

It happened again today. The headline read, "House Ethics Committee Convicts Rep. Charles Rangel of Multiple Ethics Violations [11:55 a.m. ET]."

So I clicked on the link, which took me to the ABCNews.com home page, not the story. The breaking news story was in big red letters, bordered in red at the top of the site.

Click.

And I find this:

Deliberations Underway in Rep. Charles Rangel Ethics Trial

This was an earlier post which could be summarized by the story’s first sentence, "Members of the House Ethics Committee are meeting behind closed doors today to consider whether veteranĀ U.S. Congressman Charles RangelĀ is guilty of violating House ethics rules."

The story about Rep. Rangel’s conviction?

News at 11, I guess.

Time to turn of ABCNews.com "Breaking News" alerts.
