CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–October 20, 2016.  The Prairie State College (PSC) Speech Team brought home third place honors during a recent tournament hosted by Moraine Valley Community College.

Team coach, PSC Assistant Professor Joshua Green, says that of the nine students who competed for PSC, eight had never been to a speech tournament. Anfernee Gray of Sauk Village, who was the only returning team member from last year, placed third in persuasion.

Additional PSC students competing were Namiah Barker of Sauk Village, Alyssa Beverly of Homewood, Morgan Brison of Flossmoor, Zoe Flores of Crete, Raquel Martinez-Carrillo of Flossmoor, Derra McWilliams of Country Club Hills, Mariela Reyes of Chicago Heights, and Alecia Martin of Glenwood.

“Since this is a team of almost entirely new students they were excited to attend the tournament and learn their event,” Green said. “The team finished the weekend motivated to sharpen their skills and compete at the next tournament.”

The PSC Speech Team provides students with the opportunity to improve their speaking skills while participating in intercollegiate competitions. The team also is coached by PSC Professor Ed Schwarz and Assistant Professor Dana Trunnell. For more information, visit prairiestate.edu/student-life/speech-team.
