Washington, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–January 22, 2010. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has worked over the last several days to unite Haitian children who recently arrived in Pittsburgh with their prospective parents, who had filed for their adoption some time ago and were far along in that process. These children are now all in the care of their new families.
There were 12 additional Haitian children who arrived in Pittsburgh who were not already part of an adoption process. Today, these children will be placed with the Holy Family Institute in Pittsburgh, for continued care. We hope these children will be adopted, once prospective parents have completed the screening process.
We appreciate all the efforts of our partners in this effort, including Governor Rendell and his staff, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, the Red Cross, Catholic Charities, Holy Family Institute, and Children’s Village in Dobbs Ferry. Throughout this process, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and our partners have worked to ensure that the best interest of each child guided all decisions related to their care. We are confident that each child will be safe and well cared for.
