WHO: Healthcare Coordination Crucial in Earthquake-Hit Haiti

GENEVA–(ENEWSPF)–14 January 2010 — With Haiti’s health system hit hard by its earthquake, quickly delivering and coordinating life-saving care is an immediate priority. At least eight health facilities have been damaged or destroyed. Many people are unaccounted for underneath rubble, a large number of survivors suffer from severe trauma injuries. The Government of Italy is supporting WHO’s response by releasing 10 medical kits from the bilateral Italy/WHO emergency stock. These kits will provide enough supplies and medicines to treat 500 patients requiring surgical care for injuries.
