Medical Marijuana Company Sponsors Chicago Marathon

chicago marathon cresco medical marijuanaILLINOIS–(ENEWSPF)–October 15, 2015.  Illinois’ medical marijuana program has yet to serve a single patient, but that hasn’t stopped at least one medical marijuana company from doing good things in the community before they help patients. A company called Cresco, which is one of the licensed cultivators in Illinois, sponsored the Chicago Marathon last week. I’m surprised that the sponsorship didn’t receive more attention considering that most events of that size refuse to work with cannabis companies. But fortunately, the company was able to help out the event, and in turn, help out charitable causes. Per the Sun Times:

“The educational marijuana insert, which passed the Bank of America’s rigorous screening process, is the first-of-its-kind to be a sponsor of any mainstream athletic event in the country,” Cresco Founder Charles Bachtell told Extract.

Some 45,000 runners received the insert in their race participant bags explaining the Illinois medical marijuana program — entitled “State of Relief” — sponsored by program cultivator Cresco Labs

“Having the Chicago Marathon promote this program and the use of cannabis as medicine speaks to the normalization and universal acceptance of it,” Bachtell said. ”There are thousands of runners that participate as part of the Marathon’s strong commitment to charities and medical cannabis can help those with symptoms from conditions like Cancer, AIDS, Autism and ALS.”

Marijuana has gone mainstream, and the sponsorship of a large city marathon is further proof of that. Tens of thousands of runners received direct information about medical marijuana, and countless more will now hear about it as the media continues to cover this. Now, if we could just get the State of Illinois to dramatically improve the program so that people who want to use medical marijuana can without having to rely solely on a handful of licensed companies, or the black market. Legalize home grow, in addition to other much needed changes!
