NIH Study Finds Experimental Drug Benefits Patients With Rare Type of Cancer

Bethesda, Maryland–(ENEWSPF)–June 6, 2011.  An experimental drug, cediranib, may benefit patients with a rare, slow-growing cancer called alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS), according to results from a clinical trial. The trial, carried out by scientists at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health, showed that tumors shrank in more than 50 percent of ASPS patients who were treated with cediranib. These findings were presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting in Chicago on June 6, 2011.
