Announce new Physician Organization, Northwestern Medical Group
CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–September 3, 2013. Northwestern Memorial HealthCare (NMHC) today announced the closing of its affiliation agreement with Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation (NMFF) effective September 1, 2013. As the primary faculty practice for Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, NMFF will join Northwestern Memorial Physician’s Group (NMPG) and Chicago Lakeshore Medical Associates to form Northwestern Medical Group (NMG), one of Chicago’s largest medical practices, with more than 1000 physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Harrison, President and CEO of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare. “We are pleased to welcome NMFF as a part of our health system as we begin an era of unprecedented collaboration and continue building on the foundation of success we’ve already achieved together.”
Northwestern Memorial HealthCare is the parent entity for Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Foundation, and now Northwestern Medical Group. David Mahvi, MD, Northwestern Memorial’s current chief of gastrointestinal and oncologic surgery, is the newly appointed president of NMG and Eric G. Neilson, MD, dean for Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and its vice president of medical affairs, is NMG’s newly appointed board chair. Harrison remains the president and CEO of the health system.
“The vitality of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is dependent upon a financially stable clinical enterprise,” said Neilson. “We have developed a structure of governance, management and decision-making that ensures our continued strength and ability to play an important role in the medical, educational and research community. This alignment is a foundation upon which our growth and sustainability will be built. Our national brand going forward will be known simply as Northwestern Medicine.”
Harrison and Neilson explained that an integrated health system better positions Northwestern Medicine to respond to complexities in the rapidly-changing healthcare environment. The new health system will be able to better organize care across the inpatient, diagnostic and physician office environments.
“Our Patients First mission remains unchanged – to deliver exceptional care informed by the latest breakthroughs in medical science,” said Harrison. “This alignment will give our patients seamless access to physicians practicing in more than 40 medical specialties and subspecialties. Together, we will be able to better coordinate treatments across our health system which will allow us to provide an exceptional patient experience and more importantly, a higher level of care.”
