Statement by Rep. Jan Schakowsky on President Obama’s Executive Order Banning Workplace Discrimination on the Basis of Sexual Orientation

Washington, D.C.—(ENEWSPF)—June 17, 2014. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, a member of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, released the following statement in response to the President Barack Obama’s announcement that he will sign an executive order banning federal contractors from workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity:

Proud member of LION Publishers

“I am grateful to President Obama for doing the right thing and pledging to sign this executive order.  As a result of his action, more than ten million Americans will have reassurance that they will not face harassment, denial of a raise, or even termination just because of their sexual orientation.

I know that the President is deeply committed to furthering equality wherever he has the opportunity to do so.  Monday’s announcement is an enormous step in the right direction, but we still have a lot of work to do.  I call on the leadership in the House of Representatives to bring the Employment Non-Discrimination Act up for a vote, so that we may pass it and extend these protections into law for all workers across our country.”
