CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–October 15, 2015. Jon B. DeVries, director of Roosevelt University’s Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate and an advisor to Roosevelt student teams winning the Midwest Real Estate Challenge in 2013-15, has received a 2015 teaching award from the Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation (HEEF).
Recognized for outstanding service and dedication in promoting real estate students and their educational and professional growth, DeVries is only the third real estate educator to receive an award from HEEF, which was founded in 1999.
“Jon is a dedicated educator who has the best long-term interests of his students at heart,” said Al Klairmont, executive board member and education chair of HEEF. “He goes the extra mile in providing Roosevelt students with practical skills and in preparing them for the real world.”
The award for DeVries was announced on Oct. 6 at the foundation’s annual dinner in Chicago where a Roosevelt student team, for the third year in a row, received the top first-place honor in HEEF’s 2015 Midwest Real Estate Challenge competition for its Cap the Kennedy project. The Roosevelt team’s entry was chosen as best from a competitive field of projects developed by student teams from universities throughout the Midwest.
“It’s hard enough for a student team to win the challenge, much less do it three years in a row,” said Klairmont. “We tip our hat to Jon DeVries and his program for achieving this amazing three-peat.”
A HEEF advisory board member, DeVries also was recognized for his many contributions to the foundation’s mission of advancing real estate education.
“Jon DeVries has been an invaluable asset to the foundation. His input, guidance and leadership have helped us to improve our programming for real estate students,” said Katie Wales, executive director of HEEF, which annually offers programs, including mentorships, scholarships, a career day, a speaker series, accredited courses and the Midwest Real Estate Challenge.
DeVries is the founding director of Roosevelt’s real estate program, which opened its doors in 2002. Offering the MBA degree with a concentration in real estate and the Master of Science in Real Estate degree, the award-winning program has graduated more than 300 students to date.
“We are proud of all that our students have accomplished in the Midwest Real Estate Challenge and thank the Harold Eisenberg Foundation for providing this opportunity and support for our students and our program,” said DeVries.
