Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— As flu and COVID-19 cases begin to rise in the Chicago area, Park Forest officials encourage residents to pursue vaccination before the busy holiday season. Look for an upcoming Community Vaccination Clinic in Village Hall.

The Village of Park Forest’s Recreation, Parks, and Community Health Department has partnered with Osco Drug to host a Community Vaccination Clinic on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon at Village Hall. The event will provide flu, COVID-19, and shingles vaccinations to residents. It will accept both HMO and PPO insurance.

“This is our moment to act before the holidays, when gatherings and travel increase,” said Recreation Manager Adina McCollough. “Getting vaccinated now helps protect not only yourself, but also grandparents, children, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable.”

Community Vaccination Clinic: Timing Is Crucial

McCollough said that the timing of the clinic is crucial as respiratory illnesses rise across Illinois. 

“Flu activity is already higher than it was at this time last year, and local hospitals are experiencing an increase in cases,” McCollough stated. “COVID-19 test positivity in Chicago recently climbed to more than 5 percent, the highest level since January. That’s why clinics like this one are so important in helping to slow the spread.”

McCollough also noted that even healthy adults benefit from vaccination. It reduces the risk of severe illness and protects the immunocompromised, or those unable to receive certain vaccines. By midday, dozens of residents had already rolled up their sleeves to receive vaccinations.

McCollough hopes more residents will take advantage of similar opportunities in the coming weeks. 

“This is more than just a clinic—it’s a community safeguard,” she said. “If we step up now, we give ourselves the best chance to enjoy the holidays safely. We can keep our community healthy.”
