The Village’s Department of Public Works is hosting the event. The coloring contest is open to Park Forest residents ages 3 to 14. It coincides with National Public Works Week, which runs May 17-23. This year’s national theme is “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community.”

Coloring Contest: Creativity and Understanding of PFDPW

Village officials said the contest is intended to encourage creativity. Beyond that, it will help students better understand the importance of public works employees and the services they provide.

Participants will compete in three age categories: ages 3-6, 7-10, and 11-14. Two winners will each receive a $25 gift card.

Public Works spokesperson Arteilla Sanchez said the initiative is an opportunity. The Village will be able to connect directly with local students and families in a fun and meaningful way.

“This contest gives us a chance to engage with children throughout the community while also highlighting the work our Public Works employees do every day,” Sanchez said. “From maintaining streets and water systems and keeping the Village clean and safe, Public Works touches nearly every part of residents’ daily lives.”

Civic Involvement

Sanchez lauded the educational outreach efforts of the coloring contest. She said it can help young residents develop a stronger appreciation for local government services and civic involvement.

“We want students to see that Public Works is about service, teamwork, and community pride,” she said. “By introducing these concepts at an early age, we hope children gain a better understanding of how important infrastructure and public services are to the quality of life in Park Forest.”

To participate, residents can pick up or download a coloring page. Then complete the artwork and submit it, along with contact information, to the Public Works Department at Village Hall. All entries must arrive by June 1.

Officials will announce the winners next month. The artwork will decorate the inside of the Village Hall.
