House Holds Hearing On Death Penalty Appeals

WASHINGTON—(ENEWSPF)—December 8, 2009. The House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties today held a hearing on the need for reform of death penalty appeals. Specifically, the hearing focused on the impact of habeas corpus limitations to pending death penalty sentences. The right to habeas corpus allows those detained by the government to challenge their detention and is a cornerstone of the American justice system.
