WASHINGTON—(ENEWSPF)—March 20, 2012. U.S. Senators Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) today introduced a resolution that would ensure that the foreign policy of the United States reflects appropriate understanding and sensitivity concerning issues related to human rights, crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, and genocide documented in the United States record relating to the Armenian Genocide. The Armenian Genocide was conceived and carried out by the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1923, resulting in the deportation of nearly 2 million Armenians, of whom 1.5 million were killed.
